George Edwards Appointed as Hendersonville's New Fire Chief |
Mayor Jamie Clary's Nomination of Edwards Receives Unanimous Approval |
George Edwards, a lifelong resident of Hendersonville, has been appointed as the city's new Fire Chief.
During the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) meeting on January 13, Mayor Jamie Clary nominated Edwards for the position, a decision that received unanimous approval from the board.
Edwards began his career with the Hendersonville Fire Department in 1995 and has steadily risen through the ranks, achieving five promotions over the years.
His most recent advancement was to Assistant Chief in 2023.
Reflecting on his new role, Edwards expressed, "To be the fire chief in my hometown is truly an honor."
He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the department's core to meet the needs of the growing community.
Edwards added, "Even though we are a relatively large department now, I want it to feel like a small-town fire department for our residents because I think that's the best way to connect with the community."
The search for a new Fire Chief commenced in November following the retirement announcement of former Chief Scotty Bush.
The city received approximately 45 applications from across the nation and conducted interviews with six candidates.
Mayor Clary noted, "After a unanimous recommendation from our interview board, I met with George twice for discussions about operations and the expectations of the position."
He continued, "We heard from city staff and residents as well. Without any reservations, I nominated George, and the board unanimously approved his appointment."
Highlighting Edwards' dedication, Clary remarked, "George has provided the residents of Hendersonville with decades of professionalism, passion for service, and a calm demeanor during stress."
He concluded, "I have every reason to believe that George will be an exceptional chief, and I look forward to working with him for many years."
Edwards' deep roots in Hendersonville and his extensive experience within the department position him well to lead the fire department into the future.
His vision of maintaining a close-knit, community-focused department aims to ensure that residents continue to receive personalized and effective fire services. |
