Grinch Statue Swiped from Goodlettsville Porch

Family Left Shaken but Still in the Holiday Spirit

A Goodlettsville family is asking for help after a life‑size Grinch statue was taken from their front porch late last week. The theft happened sometime overnight, and while the missing decoration may sound like a line from a Christmas comedy, the family says it has hit a little too close to home.

The statue, nearly five feet tall, had been the centerpiece of the family’s holiday display for three years. It showed the familiar green character holding a bag of gifts and standing beside a small tree wrapped in lights. Security cameras caught what appeared to be a dark‑colored truck pulling into the driveway before the figure disappeared.

Homeowner Jennifer Morton told police she noticed the Grinch was gone when she left for work the next morning. At first, she thought one of her neighbors might have borrowed it for a laugh. “Then I looked closer and saw the cords were cut,” she said. “That’s when I knew someone had taken it.”

Morton reported the theft to Goodlettsville police, who confirmed they are investigating and reviewing nearby footage. They have asked anyone in the area around Loretta Drive and Connell Street to check their cameras for unusual activity between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday.

The statue wasn’t cheap. Morton said it cost a few hundred dollars and was part of a set she assembled piece by piece. “It took time to find the right Grinch, the gloves, even the small details like the eyes,” she said. “It sounds silly but every part meant something.”

Neighbors have responded with support. Several posted on community pages offering to help search local resale sites or keep an eye on yard sales. Others dropped off replacement decorations to help the family fill the empty spot on their porch.

“I’m touched by the kindness,” Morton said. “Whoever took it might have wanted to be funny, but this community showed what holiday spirit really looks like.”

Residents in nearby neighborhoods across Sumner County, including Hendersonville, Millersville, and White House, say porch thefts of decorations and packages have become more common as the holidays approach. Local law enforcement has issued reminders to secure outdoor displays and avoid leaving expensive items unattended overnight.

Goodlettsville Police Chief Ken Reeves encouraged anyone who notices suspicious late-night traffic or unknown vehicles in residential areas to call the department. “Even something small can help us solve these cases,” he said.

As for Morton, she says she will keep decorating. A new Grinch figure is already on order, but this time she’s installing motion lights and a hidden camera aimed directly at the porch.

“It’s Christmas,” she said with a small laugh. “You can’t let the real Grinch win.”
