Portland Traffic Stops Uncover Drugs, Weapons, and Prostitution Ring

Sumner County Law Enforcement's Swift Action Leads to Multiple Arrests

In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, Sumner County law enforcement executed two traffic stops in Portland, Tennessee, leading to the arrest of two men on multiple charges, including drug offenses and promoting prostitution.

The operation began when the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force received a tip about Kenneth Ray Reese, 37, of Portland. Acting on this information, agents, in collaboration with the Portland Police Department, initiated a traffic stop on Reese's pickup truck.

During the search, officers allegedly discovered fentanyl in Reese's pocket. Reese reportedly claimed ignorance about the presence of the drug. Further investigation revealed that Reese had five outstanding warrants, with a criminal history encompassing four DUIs, assault on emergency personnel, drug charges, and thefts.

Accompanying Reese was Amber Renae Armstrong, 25. Upon questioning, Armstrong reportedly admitted that Reese and his associates had been trafficking her as a prostitute, exchanging her services for drugs and money.

Information obtained from Reese's stop led authorities to Brett Mitchell McDorman, 35, also of Portland. When officers pulled him over, they reportedly found methamphetamine and fentanyl in his possession.

Subsequently, agents secured a search warrant for McDorman's residence. The search allegedly yielded 205 grams of marijuana, five grams of methamphetamine, 1.37 grams of suboxone, and 1.5 grams of fentanyl. Additionally, agents seized digital scales, two rifles—including an AR-15 with a drum magazine found in the backseat of McDorman's pickup truck—and an electric shock device. A skid steer reported stolen was also allegedly recovered at McDorman's home.

Both men were taken into custody at the Sumner County Jail. McDorman faces charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, and marijuana; possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony; theft over $10,000; possession of drug paraphernalia; simple possession of diazepam; driving on a revoked license; and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $1.5 million.

Reese was charged with promoting prostitution, resisting arrest, simple possession of fentanyl and suboxone, driving on a revoked license, expired registration, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond information for Reese was not available at the time of reporting.

18th Judicial District Drug Task Force Director Kelly Murphy indicated that further charges are likely. In a statement, Murphy said, "The investigation is ongoing with additional charges expected... My investigator has developed new leads and will be pursuing them at this time."

Initial court appearance dates for both men were not immediately available.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Sumner County law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes and human trafficking in the region. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
