Richard Suter's Photography Illuminates Gallatin's Town Creek Greenway |
A Tribute to a Beloved Local Artist Through Public Art |
Gallatin, TN—The Town Creek Greenway has transformed into an open-air gallery, showcasing the evocative photography of the late Richard Suter.
This exhibition, part of Gallatin's ongoing public art initiative, invites residents and visitors to experience Suter's work in a dynamic outdoor setting.
Funded by the Arts Build Communities (ABC) Grant, this marks the fifth installment in the city's rotating art program.
Previous displays have featured diverse artists, including historic photographs by Ernest Stark, paintings by David Wright, creations from Gallatin High School students, and images by Allen Haynes.
Richard Suter, who passed away on July 13, 2022, after battling pancreatic cancer, was renowned not only for his compelling photography but also for his unwaveringly positive outlook.
He often shared the symbol "+ > -," encapsulating his belief that positivity outweighs negativity; a philosophy evident in both his art and personal interactions.
Mayor Paige Brown reflected on the significance of the exhibition, stating, "Public art has a way of meeting people where they are, whether they’re walking, biking, or simply enjoying time outdoors."
She added, "The Town Creek Greenway has become a gallery without walls, and we’re honored to share Richard Suter’s work and spirit with the community in such a meaningful setting."
The exhibition comprises ten 24-by-18-inch panels strategically placed along the greenway, starting at the trailhead near College Street and extending north to Westland Avenue.
Artists interested in contributing to future greenway exhibitions are encouraged to reach out to Jeff Hentschel at the Gallatin Mayor’s Office by calling 615-451-5961.
The Arts Build Communities Grant aims to broaden access to the arts, enhance community quality of life, and strengthen cultural assets.
This $7,000 matching grant is jointly funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission and the City of Gallatin under a grant contract with the State of Tennessee.
For more information on the Arts Build Communities Grant and upcoming art initiatives in Gallatin, residents can contact the Mayor’s Office or visit the city's official channels.
Embracing public art not only beautifies our shared spaces but also fosters a sense of community and cultural appreciation.
Through exhibitions like this, Gallatin continues to honor its artists and enrich the lives of its residents. |
