Sumner County Residents: Take Advantage of Tennessee's Sales Tax Holiday This Weekend

Save on Back-to-School Essentials During the Tax-Free Weekend

Sumner County residents, mark your calendars!

The annual Tennessee sales tax holiday is set to begin this Friday, July 25, 2025, at 12:01 a.m., and will run through Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

This is a prime opportunity to save on essential items as the new school year approaches.

During this period, shoppers can purchase certain clothing, school supplies, and computers without paying state sales tax.

Items sold online are also eligible, provided they are for personal use and not for business or trade.

Here's a breakdown of tax-exempt items:

Clothing:

General apparel priced at $100 or less per item qualifies.

This includes shirts, pants, socks, shoes, dresses, and more.

However, items priced over $100, as well as accessories like jewelry, handbags, and sports equipment, are not exempt.

School Supplies:

School and art supplies with a purchase price of $100 or less per item are tax-free.

Eligible items include binders, backpacks, crayons, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, and art supplies such as paints and drawing pads.

Items exceeding $100 are not exempt.

Computers:

Computers for personal use priced at $1,500 or less are eligible.

This includes laptops and tablets.

Accessories like flash drives, software, and printer supplies are not exempt.

Local leaders are encouraging residents to take full advantage of this tax-free weekend.

In a joint statement, they emphasized that Tennessee's conservative governance and strong fiscal management allow families to keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

They noted that this initiative not only helps families save on essential items as students prepare to head back to school but also provides an opportunity to support local businesses.

As you plan your shopping, keep in mind the weather forecast for Sumner County during the tax-free weekend:
