As summer unfolds, Sumner County offers a variety of events to engage residents and visitors alike. Here's a curated list of upcoming activities from July 25 through August 31.
July 25: Sumner Trails Chapter Walk and Music Night The Sumner Trails Chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association invites you to a leisurely walk at Mansker's Park, located at 7774 Old Springfield Pike, Goodlettsville. The event begins at 6 p.m. with three laps on an asphalt trail, offering partial shade. Following the walk, attendees can cross the street to the Grand Ole RV Campground to enjoy free live music. Support the Cunningham family's business by purchasing a beverage and snack. Bring a lawn chair, bug spray, and your personal cooler with drinks or food. Dogs are welcome. July 26: First Responder Community Breakfast & Car Show From 7 to 9 a.m. in downtown Gallatin, local law enforcement will showcase vehicles and gear at the First Responder Community Breakfast & Car Show. All proceeds will benefit the Gallatin "Shop with a Cop" program. Martin's Chicken and Waffles will serve breakfast for a $20 donation.
July 28-29: Portland West Middle School Registration Nights Portland West Middle School will hold registration nights for incoming students. On July 28, from 3 to 6 p.m., registration is open for sixth-grade students. On July 29, from 3 to 6 p.m., registration is available for students entering grades 7 and 8.
July 31: UT Extension – Sumner County 4-H Chick Chain Show & Sale Join the UT Extension for the Sumner County 4-H Chick Chain Show & Sale at Sumner Farmers Co-Op, 450 Red River Rd, Gallatin. The show and awards begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the sale at 7 p.m. All buyers are welcome to support the youth of the county.
August 2: Jewelry Extravaganza From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saundersville United Methodist Church, located at 710 E. Main St., Hendersonville, will host a Jewelry Extravaganza. A variety of jewelry will be available at discounted prices. Sponsored by Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America, all proceeds will assist veterans in Sumner County.
August 2: Tsuru-Hendersonville Sister City Report At 11 a.m., a delegation of 17 Hendersonville area high school students and teachers will report on their recent trip to Hendersonville's sister city, Tsuru, Japan. The event will take place in the Community Room at the Hendersonville Public Library. Admission is free, but reservations are required. August 2: Boots & BBQ Starting at 5 p.m., Bagsby Ranch in Gallatin will host Boots & BBQ. Enjoy an interactive arts experience led by Between the Lines art facilitators. Proceeds will support Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center's "Between the Lines: Healing Arts for Military Veterans." Come for the food and fun, and stay for the mission.
August 4: 19th Annual Volunteer State Athletic Association Golf Classic The 19th annual Volunteer State Athletic Association Golf Classic will be held at Foxland Harbor Golf & Country Club. Lunch and dinner are provided with team registration, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. To register, visit the official website.
August 16: "A Century of Pickin" Album Release Party From 5 to 10 p.m., Historic Stonewall will host "A Century of Pickin," The Luggnutts' tribute to the Possum Hunters. This event honors the Grand Ole Opry's first performers. Experience the music that became a local treasure and meet for a night of food, music, and fun.
August 21: Portland State of the City Address The Portland State of the City Address will be held at Richland Gym from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, visit the Portland Chamber of Commerce website.
August 31: Stout Family Singing Starting at 5 p.m., Portland's Richland Gym will host the Stout Family Singing. Concessions will be available for purchase, and a free-will offering will be collected to assist the singers with their expenses. This year's featured performers include The Commonwealth Quartet, The Music City Boys, and The Macedonia Boys.
September 6-7: Middle Tennessee Highland Games & Celtic Festival Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the Middle Tennessee Highland Games & Celtic Festival returns to Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville. This annual festival brings families together to appreciate and celebrate Scottish and Celtic traditions. For more information, visit the festival's official website.
Ongoing: Community Activities Rehoboth United Methodist Church, located at 2601 Cages Bend Rd., Gallatin, offers various activities for families. Sunday worship service begins at 10:15 a.m., preceded by Sunday school at 9 a.m. and fellowship at 9:45 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, services are livestreamed on Facebook and the Rehoboth Gallatin YouTube Channel.
The Sumner County Veterans Food Pantry, located at 73R New Shackle Island Drive, Hendersonville, is open Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Sponsored by VFW Post 9851 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 240.
Hands of Hope Food Pantry in Portland distributes seven-day meal packs to children each Saturday at Portland High School from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Distribution runs through August 2, 2025.
