New Turf Fields and Additional Amenities Enhance Community Recreation |
Hendersonville's Veterans Park is set to receive significant enhancements, including the installation of new turf fields and the addition of a pump track, aiming to elevate the recreational experience for residents.
The city's Parks and Recreation Department has initiated the replacement of grass infields with durable turf on three softball/baseball fields at Veterans Park and Field 5 at Drakes Creek Park. This $800,000 project, funded by the Public Safety, Infrastructure, Parks, and Paving (PIPP) fund, is expected to be completed in time for the 2026 spring sports season. Parks Director Andy Gilley emphasized that the new turf will help reduce rainouts and keep local leagues on schedule.
In addition to the turf upgrades, Veterans Park will introduce a pump track; a paved circuit with hills and berms designed for cycling enthusiasts. This $392,000 project is supported by a state grant and aims to cater to the growing interest in cycling within the community. The pump track will be located adjacent to the existing skate park, providing a complementary space for riders.
These developments are part of Hendersonville's broader commitment to enhancing its parks and recreational facilities. The city has also proposed a $4.6 million upgrade plan for six local parks, focusing on accessibility, safety, and user satisfaction. This plan includes improvements such as repaving parking lots, renovating basketball courts, and installing LED lighting for tennis courts.
Residents can look forward to these enhancements, which aim to provide more inclusive and enjoyable outdoor spaces for the community. |
